Sun Prairie's girls' softball team is heading to state following a 4-3 victory over La Crosse Central in a sectional final Thursday in Sun Prairie.

Kristin Hoppman hit a game winning triple in the bottom of the seventh to bring in Briana Peterson from first to give the Cardinals the victory.

"I was looking for something and I was-- all game I was struggling on hitting her changeups and drop balls.," said Hoppmann. "I was really anxious for it and yeah, I guess it couldn't have happened better."

Both teams traded leads all game. Central had a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth, but Sun Prairie tied it when Briana peterson hit a shot to left and it rolled all the way to the wall. Katelyn Huemmer scored and it's 2-2.

That was the score going into the bottom of the sixth. Hanna Running got another solid hit. Nicole Hoffman scored and Sun Prairie has the lead at 3-2. But La Crosse Central rallied to tie the game in the top of the 7th at 3- 3.

But that's when Hoppmann came up big. Sun Prairie will go to the state tournament for just the second time in school history.
