Students, experts recoil at alcohol enema case

(AP Photo/Knoxville News Sentinel, J. Miles Cary)

(AP) ? Before an unruly Tennessee party ended with a student hospitalized for a dangerously high blood alcohol level, most people had probably never heard of alcohol enemas.

Thanks to the drunken exploits of a fraternity at the University of Tennessee, the bizarre way of getting drunk is giving parents, administrators and health care workers a new fear.

When Alexander "Xander" Broughton, 20, was delivered to the hospital after midnight on Sept. 22, his blood alcohol level was measured at 0.448 percent ? nearly six times the intoxication that defines drunken driving in the state. Injuries to his rectum led hospital officials to fear he had been sodomized.

Police documents show that when an officer interviewed a fellow fraternity member about what happened, the student said the injuries had been caused by an alcohol enema.

"It is believed that members of the fraternity were utilizing rubber tubing inserted into their rectums as a conduit for alcohol," according to a police report.

While Broughton told police he remembered participating in a drinking game with fellow members of the Pi Kappa Alpha chapter, he denied having an alcohol enema. Police concluded otherwise from evidence they found at the frat house, including boxes of Franzia Sunset Blush wine.

"He also had no recollection of losing control of his bowels and defecating on himself," according to a university police report that includes photos of the mess left behind in the fraternity house after the party.

Broughton did not respond to a cellphone message seeking comment on Friday.

The university responded with swift investigation and a decision Friday to shutter the fraternity until at least 2015. The national Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity organization also accepted the withdrawal of the campus charter.

Alcohol enemas have been the punch lines of YouTube videos, a stunt in a "Jackass" movie and a song by the punk band NOFX called "Party Enema." But Corey Slovis, chairman of department of emergency medicine and Vanderbilt University Medical Center, said actually going through with the deed can have severe consequences.

"It's something that offers no advantages, while at the same time risking someone's life," he said.

The procedure bypasses the stomach, accelerating the absorption rate, Slovis said. Pouring the alcohol through a funnel can increase the amount of alcohol consumed because it's hard to gauge how much is going in.

"When you're dumping it into your rectum, often via a funnel, one or two ounces seems like such a minuscule amount," he said. Ingesting more can create unconsciousness quite quickly, he explained.

The effects have been fatal in at least one case. An autopsy performed after the death of a 58-year-old Texas man in 2004 showed he had been given an enema with enough sherry to have a blood alcohol level of 0.47 percent. Negligent homicide charges were later dropped against his wife, who said she gave him the enema.

Students walking across campus this week generally responded with sighs and eye rolls when asked about the allegations.

"It's like a big joke," said Erica Davis, a freshman from Hendersonville. "Because who does that?"

Gordon Ray, a senior from Morristown, said the details of the case caught him off guard, but not the fact that fraternity members would be overdoing it with alcohol.

"It is definitely over the top," said Ray. "But it doesn't surprise me, I don't guess."

The harm the news has done to the university's national reputation was on the mind of several students.

"If someone wants to be stupid, then they should do it where it won't affect anyone else," said Marlon Alessandra, freshman from Independence, Va.

James E. Lange, who coordinates alcohol and drug abuse prevention strategies at San Diego State University, said alcohol enemas aren't a common occurrence on campuses, though normal consumption still contributes to hundreds of student deaths annually. And many of those can be attributed to reckless attitudes about the consequences of heavy drinking, he said.

"It's not unusual to hear that students are drinking to get drunk," he said.

Lange said he hopes students don't draw the wrong lessons from the University of Tennessee incident.

"Students and people in general are pretty good at denying that they are at risk for whatever happened to someone else," he said. "So they can look at something like this and say 'I'm OK because I would never do that.'

"However, they may be drinking heavily, or doing things like mixing alcohol with prescription meds that is putting them at serious risk," he said.

To Tennessee freshman Cody Privett of Sevierville, there's nothing appealing about the incident on his campus.

"It's stupid, it's an unfortunate situation," said Privett, of Sevierville. "I mean there's partying, and then there's other things."

Wayne Elliott has had a wild week.

On Monday night, he wore the white hat as the referee of the crew that bungled the Seahawks-Packers game.? On Friday night, Elliott worked a high school football game.

In the interim, Elliott says his phone has been ringing with calls from angry fans, telling him he should ?commit suicide? and that he ?should die.?

But he still believes it was the right call.

?The replay guy just said there is nothing here that we can use to overturn it. It?s going to stand,? Elliott told FOX7 in Austin.? (This confirm that, when it came to replay reviews during the lockout, non-replacement replay officials were actually usurping the authority of the on-field referees.)

As we recently explained, via the NFL?s rulebook and casebook, there was enough evidence to overturn the ruling on the field, because Packers safety M.D. Jennings had ?control? of the ball before Seahawks receiver Golden Tate, which is the key factor regardless of what happens as they land on the ground and wrestle for the ball.? (Sorry, Seahawks truthers, but that?s the truth.)

Elliott also said he has ?no regrets? about accepting the assignment as a replacement, and that it was ?the most fun I?ve ever had.?

It was the most fun he?s had because he has been working as an official at the lower levels of the sport since 1978.? The fact that he hadn?t risen to the NFL or to a high-end college conference in the past 34 years tells us all we need to know about his overall skills.? As we?ve said time and again, if the replacements were among the best of the best, they would have been among those who were locked out.

Elliott declined to apologize to the fans of the Packers, explaining that if the call had gone the other way people would be asking if he should apologize to the Seahawks fans.

Scheduled to work the Vikings-Lions game in Week Four, Elliott said he wanted to ?get the bad taste out of his mouth? from Monday night?s game ? you know, the one for which he has nothing about which to apologize.

The gassy halo engulfing the Milky Way, a comet in the neighborhood, and extraterrestrial rocks as the source of life on Earth

Web edition : 5:58 pm

Huge halo may hold missing matter
The Milky Way galaxy is cocooned inside an enormous cloud of hot gas, a finding that could solve a persistent astrophysical conundrum. Heated to more than 1 million degrees Celsius, the halo extends more than 300,000 light-years from the galactic center and contains at least as much mass as 10 billion suns, scientists report in the Sept. 1 Astrophysical Journal Letters. An international team of astronomers used NASA?s orbiting Chandra X-ray Observatory to detect hot, charged oxygen atoms. If verified, the halo?s size could solve what?s been called the ?missing baryon? problem: In the Milky Way and local neighborhood, at least half the expected baryons???normal subatomic particles like protons and neutrons???are unaccounted for. Now, scientists think these particles might be hiding in this and other superhot, gassy halos. ??Nadia Drake

Comet could dazzle or fizzle
The skies might blaze with a visitor shining more brightly than the moon beginning in November 2013. A large comet, called C/2012 S1, was discovered September 21 by the International Scientific Optical Network in Russia and confirmed September 24 by the International Astronomical Union?s Minor Planet Center in Cambridge, Mass. Also called Comet ISON, the icy traveler is currently outside the orbit of Jupiter and in the constellation Cancer, heading for a close encounter with the sun. As it whizzes by the sun, the comet?s frozen ingredients could evaporate and leave behind a long, spectacular tail???if it doesn?t begin breaking up before then. Though predicting cometary orbits is easy, predicting brightness is trickier, because that depends on how a comet behaves. Comet ISON has the potential to be the brightest observed from Earth in a century, ?or it could fizzle,? writes amateur astronomer Bill Gray in a guest blog post for the Planetary Society. ??Nadia Drake

Neighbors may have lent life
Life could have been brought to Earth aboard rocky chunks ejected from neighboring planetary systems. The idea, called lithopanspermia, is often viewed with derision or incredulity???but conditions in the early solar system may have been just right for such a thing to occur, Amaya Moro-Mart?n of Spain?s Centro de Astrobiolog?a reported at the European Planetary Science Congress in Barcelona on September 25. After considering the dynamic environment in the very young solar system and its proximity to neighboring planetary systems, Moro-Mart?n and colleagues concluded that life-bearing materials could be efficiently exchanged between systems if interstellar rocks traveled at slow speeds. In a related paper published September 12 in Astrobiology, the team calculates that more than a trillion rocks heavier than 10 kilograms could have traveled between the sun and its neighbors before the sun?s native star cluster dispersed. ??Nadia Drake

John Terry faces ?800,000 legal bill over Anton Ferdinand race row ...

JOHN TERRY faces a mega ?800,000 bill over the Anton Ferdinand race row.

And Chelsea will not pay a penny of it.

JT was ?disappointed? after the FA yesterday found him guilty of racially abusing the QPR defender.

He copped a four-game ban and an FA record ?220,000 fine.

But that is only a fraction of the sum Chelsea?s captain spent fighting his case.

Terry, 31, has run up legal fees estimated at ?750,000 battling his criminal and FA charges.

He hopes to recoup around ?400,000 from the court case, where he was found not guilty.

But the ex-England skipper is now liable to pay the costs of the FA hearing, too, said to be at least ?200,000.

That brings his total bill to a whopping ?770,000.

But if Terry decides to continue his fight and appeal against the FA?s punishment, his legal bill will rise even further.

A statement issued on his behalf said: ?Mr Terry is disappointed that the FA commission has reached a different conclusion to the clear not guilty verdict of a court of law.

?He has asked for the detailed written reasons of the decision and will consider them carefully before deciding whether to lodge an appeal.?

Terry has 14 days from receiving the FA commission?s written report to decide what to do next.

His fine and ban will be suspended until any appeal is heard, the 14 days expire or Terry announces he will not appeal.

But if the Blues defender does appeal and loses, the FA?s punishment could be increased.

Terry announced on Sunday he was quitting international football, claiming the FA had made his position in the England team untenable by continuing to persue the charge against him.

Westminster Magistrates cleared him in July of racially abusing Ferdinand, 27, after Chelsea?s Premier League clash at QPR last October.

Terry admitted in court using obscene words towards Ferdinand ? but not as a racist insult.

A club statement last night said: ?Chelsea Football Club notes and respects today?s decision.

?We also recognise that John has the right to appeal that decision.

?It is therefore inappropriate for us to comment further on the matter at this time.?

Ravens outlast Browns

Flacco throws for 356 yards as Baltimore (3-1) beats AFC North rival, 23-16

Baltimore receiver Torrey Smith?celebrates with teammate Dennis Pitta after scoring a touchdown. The Ravens improved to 3-1 with Thursday's win.

By DAVID GINSBURG

updated 1:19 a.m. ET Sept. 28, 2012

BALTIMORE - The regular NFL officials returned to action, and the ending of their first game was eerily familiar to the one that hastened the exit of the replacement refs.

This time, however, there were no replays or arguments at the end. Just another win by the Baltimore Ravens over the Cleveland Browns, 23-16 on Thursday night.

If not for two failed desperation passes into the end zone in the closing seconds, the returning officials might have had to work overtime on their first night back.

Cleveland began its final drive with 1:05 to go on its own 10. Rookie Brandon Weeden moved the Browns to the Baltimore 33 before a fourth-down pass into the end zone fell incomplete. But a personal foul penalty on Baltimore linebacker Paul Kruger gave winless Cleveland one more chance.

That pass sailed out of the end zone.

"Too much juice," Weeden lamented.

The final sequence was not unlike the controversial ending of Monday night's Green Bay-Seattle game, when a Hail Mary pass was ruled a touchdown. That play, and the furor it created, hastened negotiations that brought the regular officials back.

The lockout ended late Wednesday, bringing about the exit of the unpopular replacement refs. And so, finally, the tenured officials were in place for Week 4.

"I felt so bad for that Green Bay situation," Ravens running back Ray Rice said. "Replacement refs, their families, I can't knock them. The scrutiny they were under. That kind of scrutiny is bad. It's hard going from like Pop Warner to the big leagues."

As they walked onto the field hours before this game, the officiating crew received a round of applause and shouts of encouragement from fans in the lower sections. Head linesman Wayne Mackie and line judge Jeff Seeman both tipped their caps to acknowledge the support.

And then, before the pregame coin flip, referee Gene Steratore greeted the players at midfield by saying, "Good evening, men, it's good to be back."

Many in the sellout crowd of 70,944 stood and roared their approval.

Afterward, Ravens coach John Harbaugh echoed the sentiment of the crowd.

"Welcome back to the officials. Good to have them back," he said. "These guys are really good. The communication was good. I didn't agree with every call, but they were excellent."

Joe Flacco went 28 for 46 for 356 yards, threw one touchdown and ran for another. Yet, it wasn't until Cary Williams returned an interception 63 yards for a score at the end of the third quarter that the Ravens (3-1) put some distance between themselves and the young Browns (0-4).

"I thought our secondary made plays that had to be made, especially at the end there when they were knocking at the door," Harbaugh said. "Cary Wiliams was the difference in the game with the interception return for a touchdown."

The fans waited until the third quarter to boo the officials. On a 13-yard completion from Weeden to Benjamin Watson, Ravens safety Bernard Pollard was called for a helmet-to-helmet hit. The crowd jeered the call, but replays appeared to confirm the penalty.

The 15-yard markoff set up a 51-yard field goal by Phil Dawson that got the Browns within 16-10.

Late in the quarter, Williams ambushed an out pattern by Travis Benjamin and took the interception down the right sideline for a 13-point lead.

It was the 13th consecutive home win for the Ravens, the longest current run in the NFL, and their streak of 10 straight wins in the division is also the most of any team. Baltimore has also won nine straight over Cleveland.

Anquan Boldin caught nine passes for 131 yards, and Torrey Smith had six catches for 97 yards and a score.

Weeden went 25 for 52 for 320 yards, but rookie running back Trent Richardson gained only 47 yards rushing on 14 carries. Dawson kicked field goals of 51, 50 and 52 yards, the last one with 4:33 left to make it 23-16.

It's the third time since 1998 that the Browns have lost their first four games. They finished 2-14 in 1999 and 5-11 in 2009.

Coach Pat Shurmur applauded the performance of the refs, and acknowledged he deserved an unsportsmanlike conduct call in the fourth quarter.

"I can't do that," he said. "It's an emotional game, and I got to make sure I keep my emotions in check."

Cleveland played the majority of the game without wide receiver and punt returner Joshua Cribbs, who sustained a concussion while returning a kick late in the first quarter.

Cribbs had his helmet knocked off and lost the handle on the ball after absorbing a hard hit by Dannell Ellerbe. It was legal tackle, shoulder to helmet, and the officials did not call a penalty. Cribbs lay prone for several minutes before finally rising to his feet and walking off the field.

Flacco went 16 for 26 for 186 yards and a touchdown to stake the Ravens to 9-7 halftime lead.

NOTES: Former Browns and Ravens RB Jamal Lewis was inducted in Baltimore's Ring of Honor. ... Cleveland safeties Tashaun Gipson and Usama Young both sustained knee injuries. ... Dawson is the seventh player in NFL history to kick three FGs of at least 50 yards in a game.

(AP) ? A new Israeli government report, leaked to local media Thursday, concludes that international sanctions are hitting Iran hard ? undercutting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's key claim as he heads to the United Nations to argue for tougher action against the Jewish state's arch foe.

The report surfaced after Israel's foreign minister predicted that Iran's leaders would face an Arab Spring-style popular revolt within the next year ? an argument that further counters Netanyahu's charge that an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities may be the only answer to what he calls a fanatic and intransigent Iranian leadership.

Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, but Israel, the United States and other Western countries reject that assertion. The U.N. has already slapped four rounds of economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic, but Netanyahu has repeatedly cast doubt on the effectiveness of those measures, arguing that they have crippled Iran's economy but have not convinced Tehran to halt its nuclear program.

Netanyahu has instead placed emphasis on urging the U.S. to draw "red lines" which would make clear which conditions would provoke an American strike on Iran's nuclear facilities ? a demand that Washington has rejected.

When Netanyahu addresses the U.N. General Assembly Thursday, he is expected to reiterate his contention that the sanctions are not working ? a claim that could be deflected by the findings in the new report, which came from the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

According to the report, details of which appeared in the Haaretz newspaper, Iran's oil exports declined by over 50 percent in the past year ? from 2.4 million barrels a day to 1 million ? and oil revenues dropped by $40 billion since the beginning of the year.

An Israeli official confirmed the report but refused to elaborate on it. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss internal government documents.

The report also claims that sanctions on Iran's central bank have made it difficult for the regime to access its foreign currency reserves, causing a 100 percent gap between the country's official exchange rate and where the rial is trading on the black market. Bread, meat and electricity prices have also soared because of the sanctions, the report finds.

Israel's Foreign Ministry, Haaretz reports, based its findings on data it received from countries that have embassies in Iran.

Senators Quiz Fundraising Firm About Work for Veterans Group ...

The Senate Finance Committee has asked Quadriga Art, a direct-marketing firm, to provide financial records about its ties to the Disabled Veterans National Foundation, a charity the committee is investigating because it has spent little money on services that directly help veterans.

Most of the money the veterans? group has raised from an extensive direct-mail operation has gone to pay bills at Quadriga and its subsidiary Brickmill Marketing Services. It owes? about $17-million to the two companies, a Quadriga spokeswoman said last month.

The finance committee?s letter asks Mark Schulhof, Quadriga Art?s chief executive, to provide details about business dealings among Quadriga, its related entities, and the veterans? charity from 2008 to 2011. It requests information about the goods and services the companies have offered, their cost, the revenue they have earned, and the money they have collected?and are still owed?by the charity.

CNN, which has broadcast numerous stories about charities affiliated with Quadriga, reported on Monday that California and New York regulators are also investigating the company.

A source close to the New York investigation confirmed that the attorney general?s office had sent subpoenas asking Quadriga about its business practices. A spokesman for the California attorney general?s office declined to comment on the report.

?Based on the recent media coverage, it is not surprising that we have received some inquiries from regulators,? Quadriga Art said in a statement. ?This is a regulated industry. We have received many inquiries over the past several decades, and we always cooperate with inquiries from industry regulators. We have always been found to have abided by all federal and state rules and regulations and have never been fined.?

Quadriga and Brickmill argue that a heavy investment was needed to get the veterans? charity off the ground and that it has helped the charity accumulate 2 million donors.? The veterans group also defended its spending?in a formal response to the finance committee, noting that it started in 2007, just before the recession hit, but that ?our supporter file is growing, and we expect the deficit to start being reduced.?

In a new video that Quadriga has distributed to clients, Mr. Schulhof says his company has not made any profit from DVNF?s business but believes it will make money in the long run.

?This is not making millions off the back of veterans,? he says. ?What this is is helping charities do good, helping charities build direct-mail files. Direct-mail files help charities sustain long-term survivability.?

CNN?s latest report highlights Quadriga Art?s direct-mail campaign for St. Bonaventure Indian Mission and School, in Thoreau, N.M., an effort that left the school in debt.

Dig deeper: See The Chronicle?s article?about Quadriga?s ties to the veterans? charity.

CEO confidence tumbles to 3-year low: Roundtable

(Reuters) - U.S. chief executives' view of the economy deteriorated sharply in the third quarter and is now as bleak as it was in the immediate aftermath of the last recession, with more planning to cut jobs over the next six months, according to a survey released by the Business Roundtable on Wednesday.

The group's CEO Economic Outlook Index tumbled to 66 in the third quarter from 89.1 in the second, in the third-sharpest drop recorded in the survey's decade-long history. Confidence fell to its lowest point since the third quarter of 2009, when the U.S. had just emerged from its worst recession in 80 years, but remained above the 50 mark separating growth from decline.

Thirty-four percent of U.S. CEOs expect to cut jobs in the United States over the next six months, up from 20 percent a quarter ago, while 30 percent plan to raise capital spending, down from 43 percent. Fifty-eight percent expect their sales to rise over that time period, down from the previous survey's 75 percent.

The survey comes less than two months ahead of the U.S. presidential election, in which the weak economy and stubbornly high unemployment are shaping up to be key elements in voters' choice between incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Investors will get a more detailed look at corporate confidence next month when top U.S. companies including Alcoa Inc , JPMorgan Chase & Co and General Electric Co report quarterly results.

The survey of 138 CEOs was conducted from August 30 through September 14.

(Reporting By Scott Malone; Editing by Gerald E. McCormick)

(This story corrects to show decline was third-sharpest, not sharpest, in survey history, paragraph 2)

Chael Sonnen didn?t show at Anderson Silva?s barbecue

Remember how before Anderson Silva beat Chael Sonnen at UFC 148, Sonnen said he wanted Silva's wife to make him a steak, and then after the fight, Silva invited Sonnen to a a barbecue? Well, the barbecue happened, but Sonnen didn't show.

Silva says it wasn't just some hamburgers on the grill affair, but a true Brazilian gaucho barbecue. Sonnen now has his sights on UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, and he's forgotten all about his pal Andy.

Thanks, Fightlinker.

Beware the latest Apex Launcher update

Apex Launcher

Just a quick heads up that it appears the update made available this morning for Apex Launcher is borking things up, from consistent force-closes to stealing babies from their cribs.

Deep breath, folks. We're sure it'll get fixed soonest. At least it better. In the meantime, we'd avoid this update. And we'll update this post just as soon as the update is updated to fix the update that broke things in the first place.

Importance of an SEO Company aimed at your web and Business ...

Search Engine Optimization, Important to Every Internet site

The importance of Search engine marketing (or search engine optimization) cannot be exceedingly emphasized. An online site that is well-optimized rates higher browsing engines, and also this normally produces a surge within traffic plus an increase in the particular site?s on the internet visibility. For the site designed solely with regard to business or perhaps commercial purposes, these benefits translate to sales as well as profit.

Even so, it?s unlucky that only a few webmasters spend money on SEO. Many rookie site owners think that spamming their site using quality submissions are enough to draw in traffic, and so, traffic. Should you be one of these website owners, you might want to alter this distinct thinking and commence looking for an Seo firm.

Importance of a search engine optimization Company to Your Site as well as Business

What makes an SEO firm help your internet site and your organization?

1. Enhance your site?s standing in search search engines

SEO is about rankings, and so the best Search engine marketing companies struggle one another to set their clients along with search engines, specially Google. There is so much visitors to be had when your internet site appears along with SERPs (or perhaps search engine results pages). After all, an end user clicks on the very first link which appears on the results page.

2. Increase traffic

There are several ways to build traffic to your site, but when your site ranks high on the internet, you nearly don?t have to develop promoting your site. As long as you entrust the job towards the best Seo firm.

3. Supercharge your website?s on the internet presence

Besides optimizing your site to rank at the top of Google, Search engine marketing companies may be trusted to construct your web site?s online presence. These companies understand the most efficient as well as effective ways to market your website in order to build your brand and expand your readership.

Four. Increase revenue and revenue

If your web site sits along with Google Search results and has an extensive readership, assured that your sales as well as revenues will also increase.

Guidelines in Employing a Company for the Optimization Requirements

There are a lot associated with companies in direct competition to gain at least a few minutes of your respective attention. Although not all of them are built the same. So to make sure that you pick the right one particular for your internet site, here are some recommendations to take.

First, be sure that the company includes a good status. And if achievable, pick a firm with a manufacturer or is in your neighborhood. For example, if you live within New York, localize your searches as well as pick the best Seo firm in New York. Also, look for a company having a rich portfolio. And of course, remember to go over the company?s price item listings.

The forgotton passions of one?s youth

Here?s a sweet survey from goo Ranking, looking at the flames of teenage passion that one has forgotten as an adult.

First Love

Demographics

From the 6th to the 9th of July 2012 1,016 members of the goo Research monitor group completed a private internet-based questionnaire. 60.0% of the sample were female, 9.9% in their teens, 12.7% in their twenties, 29.0% in their thirties, 27.0% in their forties, 11.0% in their fifties, and 10.3% aged sixty or older. Note that the score in the results refers to the relative number of votes for each option, not a percentage of the total sample.

Looking at the answers, a common theme in many of them appears to be undeclared or unrequited love, which is not an unusual occurance in Japanese schools, as far as I am aware. I was totally unaware of anything when I was in school, so I cannot give a comparison with the Scottish situation! Note, I?ve translated everything in the present tense as I think the answers read better with a sense of immediacy.

Armbars, Americanas, title shots and more: UFC 152 notes

A few observations and notes as you decompress from UFC 152:

-- Did you gasp when Vitor Belfort hit the armbar early in his loss to Jon Jones? Because I did, and I'm still amazed Jones was not injured. It's one of the few times he's been in danger, and his ability to get out of the submission was impressive.

-- Jones' fourth-round Americana submission earned him the $65,000 submission of the night bonus. The other bonuses went to Cub Swanson for his knockout of Charles Oliveira, and T.J. Grant and Evan Dunham for their bloody fight of the night.

-- At the post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White said a fight between Michael Bisping and UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva could be interesting. Nothing in Bisping's win over Stann would indicate that to be so.

-- Demetrious Johnson winning the flyweight championship will go down in the record books because he's the first-ever 125-lb champ. But it should also be remembered for the fantastic speed shown by Johnson as he picked apart the very tough Joseph Benavidez.

Iran could launch pre-emptive attack on Israel, says Irani senior commander

An Irani brigadier general said they would not start a war, but could launch a pre-emptive strike against Israel, if they were sure Israel was planning an attack.

This photo released Dec. 8, 2011, by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, claims to show the chief of the aerospace division of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, (l.), listening to an unidentified colonel as he points to US RQ-170 Sentinel drone which Tehran says its forces downed earlier this week. On Sunday Ali Hajizadeh said the Irani military could pre-emptively strike Israel if they were sure Israel was planning an attack.

Amir Ali Hajizadeh, a brigadier general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, made the comments to Iran's state-run Arabic language?Al-Alam?television, according to a report on the network's website.

"Iran will not start any war but it could launch a pre-emptive attack if it was sure that the enemies are putting the final touches to attack it,"?Al-Alam?said, paraphrasing the military commander.

Hajizadeh said any attack on Iranian soil could trigger "World War Three".

"We can not imagine the Zionist regime starting a war without?America's support. Therefore, in case of a war, we will get into a war with both of them and we will certainly get into a conflict with American bases," he said

"In that case, unpredictable and unmanageable things would happen and it could turn into a World War Three."

Prime Minister?Benjamin Netanyahu?has made increasing hints that?Israel?could strike Iran's nuclear sites and has criticised U.S. President?Barack Obama's position that sanctions and diplomacy should be given more time to stop Iran getting the atomic bomb.

Tehran?denied it is seeking weapons capability and says its atomic work is peaceful, aimed at generating electricity.

Downloadable Tweets coming soon says Twitter CEO

Twitter will soon offer downloadable Tweets, according to the company's CEO, Dick Costolo, who announced the feature would be arriving before the end of the year.

Users have apparently wanted the feature for some time now as it allows for easier lookup and referencing than using the standard Twitter interface.

For a while now a number of tools have been available from third-parties to do this but soon Twitter will be offering an official, and one would hope, easier alternative.

Costolo first mentioned the feature to the New York Times back in July but, reports The Verge, this latest confirmation came while he was speaking at a conference for the Online News Association.

Also mentioned was a new tool that will let third-parties aggregate and publish Tweets as a group, potentially offering users an even more tailored Twitter feed.

Costolo also defended the company's recent API changes which have imposed much stricter limits on what third-party Twitter clients can do with the service, further closing up what was once considered a very open platform. Costolo's defence was that Twitter realised it was basically being used to make money for other company's without seeing anything in return.

Excited by the prospect of being able to download your Tweets or are you a Tweet and forget type? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Blog Archive ? 8 Myths about Realtors - Kennedy Real Estate Blog

    ?

    ?

Just when you think you?ve found out everything you need to know about how to hire the right real estate agent, someone or something will give you their ?two cents? worth of info and have u guessing all over again! Here are 8 common misconceptions to remember when deciding on weather to use an agent or not:

    1) Real Estate Agents are Always Late for Appointments.

There is no excuse for habitual tardiness among professionals. NONE.

Every person deserves respect, and respect is earned by providing what is promised and being on time. If your agent has a god-like, self-deluded impression of her or his own importance, find another. Although I do know and hear of some agents being tardy, myself and the agents?I know have no use for it. Don?t let a few ?bad apples? give the entire industry a perception it doesn?t deserve.

    2) The More You Pay for a House, The More an Agent Makes.

In a sense one might say this is TRUE as we are mostly based on a percentage of the sale or purchase??but within a $10,000 difference in the? end we make a very small amount extra?.like a couple hundred bucks vs. the THOUSANDS most people assume. So as a realtor I am not concerned about pushing you into a higher price range for my benefit, I am concerned with you getting what you want in the price you can afford and be happy with for years to come. Happy clients come back and happy clients refer you on and that is how our business grows int his industry.

    3) The Less Commission You Pay to Sell, The More you Make.

?Discount brokerages and like to propel this myth. They claim to save sellers money by charging less. The truth is agents who are top producers and excel in this business do not discount services. Why? Because they don?t have to.

Don?t forget that if you are the?BUYER using an agent, the purchase is usually of no cost to you as the seller usually pays the commissions??so you are working with an agent for FREE in a sense. So why wouldn?t most buyers use and agent then to deal with all the hassle of looking? So agents have buyers and if you are not listed with an agent on the MLS system then we usually don?t bring our buyers to you.?

    4) Agents Must Show You Homes On Demand.

Unless you have a signed BUYERS BROKERAGE AGREEMENT with an agent or the agent that represents the seller, that agent you call doesn?t have to show you anything. You can?t call a local real estate office and demand service or demand to be shown homes, because agents don?t work for free.

If you aren?t planning on writing an offer with the agent you call, be upfront or don?t waste that agent?s time. But don?t expect that agent ? who is likely to earn nothing ? to be too excited about jumping in the car with you. That agent is not obligated to show you anything.

5)? An Agent?s Home Inspector Will Always Favor the Agent.

Any agent worth her salt wants disclosure. Why? Because he/she wants what is best for her client but also, and this is not to be taken lightly, because he/she does not want to be sued.

Agents must disclose material latent defects. A buyer is always, without fail, better off knowing the truth about a house.? The home inspector does not want to jeopardize their integrity or job so they certainly are not going to risk anything for their preferred agent just because he or she throws them quite a bit of business?..they could be? out of business instead!

    6) All Real Estate Agents Make Too Much Money.

This is my favorite one. Not all the agents you see are closing the number of deals others may be. 80% of mediocre agents are doing 20% of the business while the 20% if good agents are doing the 80% of business out there.

    7) Agents Sell Their Own Homes for More Money Than Yours.

Busy agents and top producers don?t have the luxury of time to waste when selling their own home. They also understand the market better than your average home seller, which means if a home isn?t selling within a reasonable period of time, it means it is priced too high. We agents are smart enough to price our homes right and get them sold.

We don?t create market value, we just follow it and act accordingly.

8)? Agents Will Say Anything to Make the Sale.

Although it is true that some agents will lie to you, it?s unfair to assume we are all the same.

Making misrepresentations or a false statements is against the law. Agents who break fiduciary relationships or fail to disclose material facts are subject to prosecution and a loss of their license to sell real estate.?WE agents take this very seriously as trading in real estate is our passion. It is not just a job?it is a CAREER and if we lose our license to trade in real estate we cant just pick up somewhere else. Our licenses are our ticket to financial gain?..without it we have to re think our entire scope and line of work.

5 Iraqi soldiers killed in roadside bomb explosion

BAGHDAD (AP) ? Five Iraqi soldiers were killed in a roadside bomb explosion north of Baghdad on Saturday, Iraqi officials said, as suspected Sunni militants, seeking to undermine the Shiite-led government continue to target the country's security forces.

A police official in Salahuddin province said the attack on a two-vehicle military convoy occurred early in the afternoon near the predominantly Sunni town of Duluiyah, 75 kilometers (45 miles) north of Baghdad. Four other soldiers were wounded in the blast, the official said.

Doctors in the town's hospital confirmed the death toll. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Iraqi government, Ali al-Moussawi, said authorities will conduct random searches of Syrian-bound Iranian planes on suspicion that they might be carrying weapons to the war-torn nation.

Iran is an ally to Syrian President Bashar Assad, whose military has battled opposition forces during an 18-month-old uprising that has become a civil war.

U.S. officials have accused Baghdad of allowing Iran to fly weapons to Assad's forces through Iraqi airspace. Iraq denies the claims.

Al-Moussawi told The Associated Press that Baghdad has informed Tehran of their decision to search Iranian planes, flying to Syria, "if we have suspicions on the nature of the cargo."

On Friday, Iraq prevented a North Korean plane from entering its airspace on suspicion it was carrying weapons to Syria.

North Korea is a long time Assad ally.
